Okonomiyaki workshop

Overview

  • Okonomiyaki is Japan’s famous savory “pancake dish,” built on a batter base with cabbage and your choice of add-ins (meat/seafood)
  • Sushimon has been running okonomiyaki trainings for over 10 years; it’s now a permanent part of our menu.
  • We’ve led workshops since year 2007 —over 450 in total.
  • Focus: an entertaining and hands-on experience. Our chefs have lived in Japan, studied Japanese culture/language at university, and are passionate fans of Japanese cuisine.
  • We tailor the workshop precisely to your event.

Venue & Duration

  • Duration: 2.5 hours (including eating).
  • Location: we run workshops in Tallinn and across Estonia—either at client-selected venues or at Sushimon’s space Tartu mnt 84a, Tallinn.
  • At our venue: room rental 3 h = 90 € (+ VAT); capacity up to 25 participants.

Room Requirements

  • Each participant should have a small tabletop and a a seat.
  • Power outlets for portable stoves.

What does the okonomiyaki workshop include?

  • Miso soup with Japanese toppings for all participants.
  • Okonomiyaki making: each participant prepares a generous portion of authentic okonomiyaki with step-by-step guidance.
  • Stories and tips about Japanese food culture, plus the chance to write your name in Japanese.
  • Recipes and links to places to buy ingredients in Estonia.

Menu per person

  • Miso soup: miso, soft tofu, shiitake, wakame.
  • Okonomiyaki: cabbage, carrot, batter, seafood, bacon + authentic add-ins such as nagaimo, aonori, katsuobushi, benishōga (red pickled ginger), and more. During the workshop we explain what these are and why they taste so good.

Special requests: with prior agreement we tailor the menu for vegetarians and other dietary needs.

HIND

  • Base fee: 230 € for the workshop.
  • Ingredients: 25 € / participant.
  • Additionally: transport fee (about €15) or room rental (≈ 90 €) and VAT.

  • All ingredients used in the workshop are included in the price.
  • Afterwards, the same ingredients are easy to find in Estonia (e.g., nori.ee, umami.ee, epromo.ee).
  • Some specialty items may be exotic and be brought by the instructors from Japan, to provide an authentic taste experience.
